Donegal Highlands Golf Course
Donegal Highlands Golf Course, par 72, 6349 yards, slope 124 hugs the eastbound lane of the PA Turnpike just prior to the Donegal exit. The layout is really two courses in one. Wind is always a factor on the links-style front nine while Jacobs Creek meanders through the tree-lined back nine. With alumni ties to the renowned Penn State turfgrass program, the course provides superior playing conditions and a strategic Ron Forse designed layout. The flat terrain is unusual for a mountain course. The facility features a well-appointed pro shop, spacious grass practice tee, PGA instruction and the unique Black Dog Pub, hosts over 200 group outings annually and is close to all Laurel Highlands attractions.
The Country Pie Shoppe
The Country Pie Shoppe is a favorite stop for many tourists familiar with the Donegal area. This home-style bakery offers a wide range of goodies to tempt the taste buds such as home baked pies and old-fashioned breads and buns all baked from scratch the way Grandma used to. Their "Almost Famous" homemade cinnamon rolls, scoopies, snails and apple dumplings bring visitors back again and again. Fresh baked sweet rolls, cookies, cupcakes and endless other delights are baked fresh daily, seven days a week at the Rt. 31 location, just 1 mile East of PA Turnpike Exit 9/91 in Donegal.
The Old General StoreNestled in the heart of the Laurel Mountains, The Old General Store opened its doors on May 1, 1997. Conveniently located one mile from exit 9/91 of the PA Turnpike on RT 31 East, in Donegal Pa. It shares the same building as The Country Pie Shoppe. The store features old-fashioned candies and fudge, primitives, old-fashioned soaps, and all types of candles. It also offers American made tin ware, potpourri, folk art, wall hangings, and furniture, natural bath & body products, aromatherapy oils & related items. Lots of hand-made wooden toys and gourmet food items are also available. Tourists who visit the store take a trip back in time and enjoy candies & products from years gone by. The store has the hometown feel of the Old General Store of yesteryear. Complete with hardwood flooring and aromas that will entice any visitor.
